Academic Development
Part of the development process is for our Cadets to progress though the Air Training Corps by reaching various stages of academic achievement.
When a Cadet joins the ATC they become a 'recruit' and after a number of weeks 'induction' they take a Theory Exam and a basic Drill Test. On passing they then become a fully fledged member of the Air Training Corps.
The Cadets can then look forward to developing their knowledge and attaining further structured levels of progress as a LEADING Cadet, SENIOR Cadet and STAFF Cadet. Those who stay on beyond 18 years of age can become an INSTRUCTOR Cadet.
On the completion of each level Cadets receive a Certificate to recognise their qualification.
British Training Education Certificate (BTECs)
2028 Squadron together with Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing is keen to see its Cadets and Adult staff members prepare for a successful future. With this in mind the Wing has teamed with the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO) to provide additional national qualifications in the form of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and British Training Education Certificate (BTECs).
Both Cadets and Staff can use their work within the Air Cadet Organisation to obtain nationally recognised Vocational Qualifications that can help them to get ahead both personally and professionally. Cadets joining Southam Squadron are encouraged to join this scheme and then, having completed all the Academic Training provided, they become eligible to apply for a BTEC.
